Onward and upward for talented mare

Breednet - Sunday November 12
Untamed Diamond gained an invaluable black type victory at Te Rapa and connections will now raise their sights with the mare.

Untamed DiamondThe daughter of Snitzel capitalised on a cosy run on Saturday to down a competitive line-up in the Listed Legacy Lodge Sprint (1200m).

"It was a nice effort, she was all the better for her first-up run," trainer Richard Collett said.

"She'll definitely be nominated for the Railway now and I'll go home and work out how we get her there."

The Gr.1 Sistema Railway (1200m) will be run at Ellerslie on New Year's Day.

Unplaced when resuming in the Gr.3 Sweynesse Stakes last month, Untamed Diamond raced in behind the leader and proved too good in the run home in Trudy Thornton's hands.

"She drew well and relaxed nicely and got the job done well," Collett said.

He had originally intended to send Untamed Diamond south for next Wednesday's Gr.3 Lindauer Stewards' Stakes Handicap (1200m) at Riccarton, but had a change of heart after her first-up run.

"She looked a bit rough changing legs and I was bit perturbed about going down there to run on a firm track so we stayed closer to home and it's worked out well," Collett said.

Untamed Diamond has now won seven races, three of them in Sydney and has a runner-up finish in the Listed Bright Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Doomben when campaigned in Australia. – NZ Racing Desk.
