Queenslander Enters Karaka Millions 2YO Picture

Media Release - Monday December 11

Beau Dazzler (NZ) (Ardrossan) added some Australian flavour to the order of entry for the $1m TAB Karaka Millions 2YO (1200m) with his black-type victory in Brisbane over the weekend.

Saturday’s A$200,000 Listed Eureka Stud Phelan Ready (1000m) at Eagle Farm lifted Beau Dazzler’s career earnings to A$120,150 from a two-start career that has produced a win and a placing.

The Tony and Maddysen Sears-trained Beau Dazzler now sits in top spot on the Karaka Millions order of entry, and the colt’s connections have not ruled out a trip across the Tasman to contest the Ellerslie showpiece on January 27. If he did make the trip, he would be the first Australian-trained runner in the Karaka Millions 2YO since the Liam Birchley-trained Neptune’s Spear (NZ) (Super Easy) in 2019.

Beau Dazzler was bought for $85,000 by Paul Moroney Bloodstock, Catheryne Bruggeman and Sears Racing from the Mapperley Stud draft in Book 2 of Karaka 2023. A full-brother to Beau Dazzler will be offered by Landsdowne Park as Lot 907 in Book 2 of Karaka 2024.

The undefeated Velocious (NZ) (Written Tycoon) is in second place on the TAB Karaka Millions 2YO with $86,250 in stakes. Her impressive last-start win in the Listed Counties Challenge Stakes (1100m) makes her the current favourite for the big race.

Two-time stakes placegetter Poetic Champion (NZ) (Super Seth) sits in third spot with $56,650, followed by Bellatrix Star (Star Witness) on $38,325 and So Naive (NZ) (U S Navy Flag) on $25,875.

Savaglee (NZ) (Savabeel), Maracatu (NZ) (Ardrossan), About Last Night (NZ) (Capitalist), Sunrise (NZ) (Charm Spirit) and Captain Roy (NZ) (Savabeel) round out the top ten, and the others who are currently in line for a start in the 14-horse field are Toruk Makto (NZ) (Eminent), Full Force (Cosmic Force), Hard Attack (NZ) (All Too Hard) and Macaluso (NZ) (Savabeel).

The next opportunity to pick up crucial prize-money along the road to the TAB Karaka Millions 2YO will be at Te Rapa this Saturday, with the running of the $65,000 ICIB Brokerweb 2YO (1100m).

The TAB Karaka Millions 2YO will be run at Ellerslie on January 27, as part of a blockbuster twilight programme that also features the $1.5m TAB Karaka Millions 3YO (1600m) and the inaugural running of the $1m Elsdon Park Aotearoa Classic 4YO (1600m).
