Godolphin Draft Highlights Third Day of Tattersalls December Mares Sale

Media Release - Thursday December 7

Trade at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale continued in robust fashion on the third day with 14 lots selling for 50,000 guineas or more headed by a top lot of 160,000 guineas, taking turnover for the Tattersalls December Sale past the 100,000,000 guineas mark.

Godolphin’s Mufeeda to Lucky Vega for 160,000 Guineas

The Godolphin draft is a perennial highlight of the Tattersalls December Mares Sale with the dams of 2023 Group 1 winners HIGHFIELD PRINCESS, MILITARIZE and WITHOUT A FIGHT all purchased from previous Godolphin consignments and it was no surprise that the top lot of Wednesday’s session was the unraced three-year-old MUFEEDA, who was knocked down for 160,000 guineas to Lucky Vega, bidding online. The daughter of NO NAY NEVER is out of the Listed Radley Stakes winner ZOOWRAA.

Godolphin’s bloodstock sales manager Marie Sullivan commented: "She is a long term pedigree of Sheikh Ahmed's, she really was the pick of our draft and is a lovely filly. It is unfortunate that she has not made it to the track. Her dam Zoowraa is in foal to Dubawi, her foal is by Too Darn Hot and she has a Night Of Thunder yearling who is in training with William Haggas."

MUFEEDA is a half-sister to MAAMORA, winner of the Group 3 Atalanta Stakes and third in the Group 2 Balanchine Stakes, and also to HARLECH, sold by Godolphin for 60,000 guineas at the 2016 Tattersalls July Sale and subsequently the dam of Champion Australian filly HUNGRY HEART, a brilliant winner of the Group 1 Australian Oaks and the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes.

The Godolphin consignment today realised a total of 633,000 guineas for the 19 fillies offered, taking their total for the sale to 2,097,000 guineas for the 38 lots sold.

There was continued action from Japanese purchasers on the third day of the Tattersalls December Mares Sale with the Royal Studs consigned CANDLE OF HOPE purchased for 100,000 guineas by Naohiro Hosoda of Shadai Corporation. The three-year-old daughter of CABLE BAY is a dual winner and placed twice in Listed company including the Denford Stakes for trainer Richard Hughes.

"She has blacktype and a good race record, she had lots of speed and she is good-looking," said Hosoda. "I am a big fan of Green Desert who is in the pedigree, we have not decided on her immediate plans."

A half-sister to the Bahraini Champion ENCOURAGE, CANDLE OF HOPE is out of the CAPE CROSS mare GOOD HOPE, a half-sister to Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner MY KINGDOM OF FIFE. Her third dam HIGHBROW is a daughter of the dual Classic winner and influential broodmare HIGHCLERE, ancestress of the legendary Japanese sire DEEP IMPACT and luminaries including HEIGHT OF FASHION, NAYEF, NASHWAN and UNFUWAIN.

The Tattersalls December Mares Sale continues at 9.30am on Thursday, 7th December with the final session set to bring the curtain down on sales at Tattersalls Park Paddocks this year.
