Early Double for Rubick as Ruada and Ezeiza Shed Their Maiden Status

Mark Smith - Tuesday December 5

An excellent start to the day at Bendigo for Swettenham Stud's Rubick, with Ruada opening his winning account at start two and Ezeiza making the perfect start to her career over 1100m.

Ridden by Damian Lane for Simon Zahra, Ruada gave lie to his poor performance on a heavy track at Werribee on debut in June, with an adventurous win in the Club Barham Maiden Plate for 3-year-old over 1100.

Sticking hard against the fence, Ruada looked likely to be swamped in the closing stages but continued to rally despite running about.

The Ozzie Kheir homebred defeated the Churchill (IRE) gelding Winter Offensive by a neck, with the Sioux Nation filly Sakowin a short neck back in third.

He is the third foal and second winner for blue-blooded import Adawiyah (IRE), whose first foal is unraced Frankel mare Miss Frankie, who went to stud last spring for Yulong and foaled a Tagaloa filly in September.

Adawiyah (IRE) is a half-sister by champion sire Dubawi to stakes-winner Apache Spirit from the family of Champion 3YO Filly Aquarelliste whose daughter Authortitaire sold for $525,000 gns, the third highest priced lot at yesterday's Tattersalls November Sale.

Litt Racing purchased a Dundeel colt from Adawiyah (IRE) for $50,000 from the Cannon Hayes Stud draft at the 2023 Ingis Classic Yearling Sale.

There was no secret that had the ability, and she was odd-on to make a winning career debut in the KFC Bendigo Maiden Plate (1100m).

Giving Damian Lane the first two winners, the Cliff Brown-trained 3-year-old filly looked to be figuring over the final 100m to defeat the 4-year-old Squamosa gelding It's Maui's Gold by one and a quarter lengths with the 4-year-old Scissor Kick mare Albanian Stara long-head back in third.

Ezeiza runs for her breeder, Greg Perry's Greenwich Stud.

She is the seventh winner for the stakes-winning Hussonet (USA) mare Dirty, the dam of stakes-winner Happy Go Plucky and stakes-placed Cabeza De Vaca.

Yu Long Investments shelled out $260,000 for Dirty's Written Tycoon filly consigned from the Vinery Stud draft at the 2023 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

She has been named Judicial and is in training with Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman.

The double at Bendigo takes Rubick's tally to 44 individual winners for the season.
