Racing last weekend produced a new Australian stakes-winner from an iconic Kiwi female family that is never without representation at Karaka and a rising star two year-old highlighted a nick that has everyone’s ears pricked.

Six year-old Exosphere gelding Phearson won his first stakes race when scoring a last stride win in the Group III ATC Festival Stakes at Rosehill, read about him here.

As you can see from his pedigree, Phearson is a grand-son of revered Kiwi blue hen Miss Distinction, who produced 11 winners from 13 foals to race headed by dual Group I winner Gee I Jane and Group III winner Miss Jessie Jay, the dam of two more Group I winners in Katie Lee and Banchee.

There are five yearlings from this family to be offered at Karaka in Book 1 and 2 including the half-sister to Phearson by Darci Brahma.

Another stakes-winner at Rosehill on Saturday was Kiwi bred stayer Stockman, a $175,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase for Proven Thoroughbreds that has won over $1.7million and added the Listed ATC Christmas Cup to his resume, click to read more about him.

Stockman comes from a well-known Kiwi female family that has had plenty of success in Australia being from Group winning Zabeel mare Crimson and there are two yearlings to be offered in K1 from this family.

There are two entries for K1 from this family which has also produced Group I winner Keepa Cruisin.

Storm Boy is bred on the Justify x Fastnet Rock nick which is looming as one of serious potential with 12 winners from 14 runners, so 85.7% winner to runner and three stakes-winners – Learning to Fly, Star of Justice, Just Steel - at 21% SW to runner.

There is one yearling to be offered at K1 bred this way and it’s the full sister to stakes-winner Star of Justice.
