Magic Night Stakes runner-up Alizee signalled she is a real spring contender with an impressive first-up performance in the The Everest Is Coming Handicap (1100m) at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.
The daughter of Sepoy settled midfield, three-wide with cover while Bjorn Baker's Song Like lead comfortably from the outset.
Song Like ($6.50) lead clearly into the straight with Glyn Schofield pulling out Alizee ($1.90 fav) to give chase. The two fancied runners sprinted well clear of their rivals with Alizee getting the better of Song Like over the final 100m to win comfortably by 3/4-length, with a further 2-3/4 lengths back to Brad Widdup's Acqume in third.
"She's got a big action and a big engine to go with it, so hopefully this Sepoy filly has black type aspirations for the spring and a good future ahead," James Cummings said.
"I love that she has produced that off one trial.
"She was top weight today. You can't underestimate beating the quality of that sort of opposition with only one trial under her belt and clearly improvement in her."
Alizee paraded fresh in the mounting yard prior to the race, which gave Cummings confidence that there plenty of improvement to come.
"I'm really pleased, having paraded the way she did, she put them away like that and definitely given us signs she's ready to go bang now she's turned three," Cummings said.
Jockey Glyn Schofield was pleasantly surprised by the three-year-old's performance.
"She was quite fresh in the prelims, as we saw, so there's a lot to like about her the way that she finished off," Schofield said.
"She relaxed so sweetly for me even though she was fresh and when I popped her to the outside I could really sense she wanted to run.
"I think there's a lot in store for her."
Cummings indicated that Alizee would most likely avoid a clash with Godolphin's colts in the Group I Golden Rose but will instead be aimed at the Princess Series of races this spring racing carnival.
