Group I Winning Colts No More

Tara Madgwick - Friday December 1

A Group I win on the resume for a well bred colt does not guarantee a career at stud and the vast prizemoney on offer has encouraged connections of two Group I winning colts last season to continue their careers next year as geldings.

Lindermann will go forward racing as a gelding - image Steve Hart

A homebred for Woppitt Bloodstock, stunning near black Lonhro colt Lindermann scaled the mountain when scoring a tenacious head win over Pericles in the $600,000 Group I ATC Rosehill Guineas (2000m) following on from his second to Communist in the Group I ATC Randwick Guineas.

Tested during the spring in several elite Group I races, the Chris Waller trained Lindermann failed to run up to expectations and has now been gelded, which is also good news for the equestrian fraternity as he is sure to be an attractive proposition for an after racing career.

$1.5million earning Victoria Derby winner Manzoice has also been gelded - image Grant Courtney

The same path has been taken with his stablemate Manzoice, who won the Group I VRC Victoria Derby as a spring three year-old last year, but has failed to place in six runs since then and he too has been gelded.

All eyes will be on these guys next year to see if they can recapture the glory days as geldings.
