Hong Kong Up and Comer for Denman

Tara Madgwick - Monday November 6
Lonhro's Group I wining son Denman is one of the quiet achievers on the Darley NSW roster, but has a star on the rise in unbeaten Hong Kong trained three year-old Hot King Prawn, who resumed from a break to win at Sha Tin on Sunday.

Hot King Prawn - HKJCPrepared by John Size and ridden by Zac Purton, Hot King Prawn scored an easy two and a half length win over 1000 metres in Class Three company and looks well placed to progress further.

He was a hot favourite and clocked a brisk 56.67 seconds in winning his third race from three starts.

"It was a good effort today," Purton said. "They weren't going to hand up the lead to him and they tried to hold him out, but he's always shown good pace and he did again today.

"It was nice through the first part and then when we got down to the 600 (metres) he grabbed hold of the bit and wanted to get on with it. I pressed the button early so I could get to the outside fence and give him something to follow and he sustained a long sprint, a long run, so it was a good effort from a young horse."

Hot King Prawn was a $90,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Aquanita Racing from the Torryburn Stud draft.

Bred and sold by Torryburn, Hot King Prawn is a half-brother to stakes-placed Siren's Fury being from Unbridled's Song (USA) mare De Chorus, a daughter of stakes-winner Val de Grace.

De Chorus has a yearling colt by Your Song and has foaled this spring producing a filly by The Factor (USA).

Hot King Prawn's sire Denman stands at a Darley at a fee of $11,000.
