Microphone Off the Mark as Pulpit Makes Winning Debut

Mark Smith - Wednesday November 22

Darley Stud's Microphone is off the mark with his second starter, Pulpit, making a winning career debut in the Doubtland 1st Yearlings Selling 2024 @widdenstud Maiden Plate (1200m) at Doomben on Wednesday.

Ridden by Martin Harley for Barry Lockwood, Pulpit wrested the lead off Mishani Crown shortly after straightening and quickened impressively to defeat the experienced Pierata colt Rockrata by two and a quarter lengths.

The Mission filly Mishani Voltage did the best of the six-strong 'Mishani army' and was three-quarters of a length back in third.

The sweet moving Pulpit was an $18,000 purchase for Wahha Thoroughbreds from the Newgate Consignment at the 2022 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale.

Bred by S F Bloodstock, the daughter of Microphone is the first foal of the multiple stakes-placed winner Sarah's Holy Belle (USA) (El Corredor), a half-sister to stakes-winner Sarah's Passion (Songandaprayer).

Sarah's Holy Belle (USA) foaled a Capitalist filly on October 6.

The Group 1 ATC Sires' Produce Stakes winner and runner-up in the Golden Slipper and Randwick Guineas, Microphone, has 56 live foals in his first crop. His fertility has increased in each of his two subsequent seasons.

Microphone stands at Darley, Kelvinside, for a fee of $33,000.
