Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Monday November 20

Two heats for juveniles at Randwick on Monday morning and we got our first look at the full sister to champion filly Sunlight that made $2.6million at the Gold Coast in January to be the highest priced filly at Magic Millions for 2023.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Street Boss (USA) filly Madrina had the advantage of the inside gate to go through and lead all the way in her 740m scamper, but there were probably more eyes on her stablemate Clean Energy in the Yulong colours. Madrina took the win by a length and a quarter, but there was  plenty to like from Sunlight’s little sister, who showed nice ability and was not pushed along.

Bred and retained to race by Glentree Racing, Madrina is a half-sister to four winners from stakes-winning Exceed and excel mare Armed for Action, a grand-daughter of dual Group I winning filly Bravery.

The other juvenile heat for colts also went to the Waterhouse Bott stable, who saddled I Am Invincible colt Anode for his first public outing. He showed good pace from the gates to go forward and travelled wide before finding the line nicely to win by a neck.

Anode was passed in at Magic Millions and retained by Evergreen Rich and is a half-brother to Singapore Derby winner Han Xin from the family of champion sire Fastnet Rock.
