Run Harry Run Not for Catching in Blue Sapphire

Mark Smith - Saturday November 18

The progressive 3-year-old Written Tycoon gelding Run Harry Run went from a maiden win at Ballarat to a benchmark 64 at Bendigo to a Group III triumph in Saturday’s Catanach's Jewellers Blue Sapphire Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

Ridden by Daniel Stackhouse for Michael Moroney, Run Harry Run did just that to run down the Brave Smash (JPN) gelding Brave Mead by three-quarters of a length with the Harry Angel (IRE) colt Arkansaw Kid one and a half lengths back in third.

In opening his stakes account, the son of Written Tycoon advances his record to three wins from four starts for $407,900.

“It was scripted pretty well for us. We wanted to be positive from that inside barrier,” Stackhouse said.

“We got a lovely run in transit. My bloke is so green and raw still, but the more you ask the more he keeps improving.

“I felt that we wanted to be positive from that inside barrier. We got a lovely run in transit. My bloke is so green and raw still.

“I felt like I was going to get there but he just took a while.

“He’s doing a great job.

“He just seems to keep improving and every target you throw at him he seems to pass. Mike and his team have done a fantastic job.

“Sandown Guineas is only two weeks away so we’ll see how the horse pulls up and Mike knows what he’s doing.”

Michael Moroney said Run Harry Run should be unbeaten.

“We thought at his first start it was a bit short for him. He was pretty unlucky," he said.

“He probably should have been unbeaten now.

“He’s a really nice horse. He’s got a great brain. Just like the filly, really natural from day dot.

“He was a big colt that got that heavy that he was having front leg troubles so we decided to geld him. He’s got a great brain and a lovely attitude then he goes out there, smells the daisies and doesn’t concentrate."

Run Harry Run a $280,000 Magic Millions yearling

A $280,000 purchase for  PR Funds from the Kenmore Lodge draft at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Run Harry Run is a three-quarter-sister to the Group III  BRC Gunsynd Classic winner Trump (Written Tycoon).

He is the only runner for the winning Denman mare Maybe Markle who has a 2-year-old Vancouver filly named Vovo, a yearling filly by Spirit Of Boom, and was covered by Wild Ruler last spring.

Run Harry Run is the 55th stakes-winner for Yulong Stud’s Written Tycoon.
