Second Winner for Tassort

Tara Madgwick - Friday November 10

A fast precocious juvenile by Brazen Beau, Tassort always had the profile to get early two year-olds and produced his second winner from three starters when Astapor made a winning debut on Friday.

Sent around a short priced favourite in the 1050m juvenile maiden at Rockhampton for colts and geldings, the Clinton Taylor trained Astapor lived up to expectation when opening up to win by nearly five lengths.

Astapor was a $38,000 Magic Millions Book 2 purchase.

A $38,000 Magic Millions Book 2 purchase from Telemon Thoroughbreds for Livistona Grazing Company, Astapor is the first winner for Black Mink, a winning Lonhro daughter of stakes-winner Jasminka.

Newgate Farm based Tassort is a Godolpin homebred that won the Golden Gift on debut back in 2018 when it was only worth $150,000 and his five length victory earned him favouritism for the Golden Slipper.

Sadly for connections, he only raced one more time for a second to Time to Reign in the Group II ATC Silver Slipper and then Newgate and Emirates joined forces to give the half-brother to Group I winners Alizee and Astern his chance at stud.

Tassort has covered 450 mares in his first three seasons at stud with Emirates Park supporting him with some top quality mares and gaining an instant reward when their promising homebred filly Manaal won the Group III ATC Gimcrack Stakes.

Tassort stands at a fee of $11,000.
