Winning Run for Dalghar

Media Release - Wednesday November 1
With three winners and three seconds from six runners in the space of just three days, Brighthill Farm's Dalghar (Fr) has enjoyed a winning run of late that looks set to continue.

Dalghar posted a classy winning double last Saturday in New Zealand with victories for lightly raced three year-old Platinum Volos at Trentham and consistent four year-old Barabas, who saluted at Riccarton.

Platinum Volos as a yearlingThe Lisa Latta trained Platinum Volos was having just his fifth start and posted his second win when taking out the Wellington Guineas Trial over 1200 metres by three-quarters of a length.

A $52,500 NZB Festival Sale purchase for his trainer, Platinum Volos looks to have a bright future and has won two of three starts since resuming from a spell.

Prepared by Michael and Matthew Pitman, Barabas scored a deserved win over 1200 metres and while it was only his second win, the gelding has also been placed a further four times from his 13 starts.

A $26,000 NZB Select Yearling Sale purchase, Barabas is a half-brother to Group III winner Jazella and is improving with maturity.

The success of Platinum Volos and Barabas followed on from a Pukekura win on Thursday for Tellyawhat and wins in Australia last month for Gaugin (Warwick Farm) and Only Choice (Canberra).

Dalghar"As the tracks dry out in New Zealand, Dalghar is coming into his own with several of his stock headed for stakes company in coming weeks," said Nick King of Brighthill Farm.

"Platinum Volos is to be aimed towards the Group I Levin Classic and Scott Base, who was a good second to Ever Loyal in the Listed Zacinto Stakes last Saturday, is among the favourites for the Group I New Zealand 2,000 Guineas."

Scott Base was stakes-placed last season at two and was held up for a run when second in the Listed Zacinto Stakes at Riccarton, so is clearly on an upward spiral.

A Group III winning half-brother by Anabaa to Group I winning sires Daylami and Dalahkani, Dalghar has established himself as a proven source of winners and stakes horses and stands at a fee of $8,000.
