Less than a year after going through the sale ring at the New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale, lightly raced three year-old Warmonger stepped on to Australian racing’s biggest stage with a black-type victory on Melbourne Cup Day at Flemington and there are four more youngsters by his sire War Decree (USA) to be offered at this year’s sale.

Trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr, Warmonger scored a superb win in the OTI Racing colours in the $175,000 Listed TAB Trophy (1800m) and has had three starts for two wins and a placing, earning A$125,250 with the prospect of much more to come.

The second stakes-winner for young War Front stallion War Decree, whose oldest progeny are three year-olds, Warmonger was bought for $75,000 from Book 2 at Karaka 2022, then cost $165,000 at the Ready to Run Sale last November. His breeze up in 11.40 seconds is featured above.

War Decree has four entries for NZB Ready to Run and they are listed below:

Lot 63 from BMD Bloodstock a colt from place High Chaparral (IRE) mare High Esteem from the family of Group I winners Prized Gem and Nom du Jeu. He galloped in 10.78 seconds.

Lot 180 from Riversley Park a gelding (second foal) from five time winning Pins mare Pinzano from the family of Group I winning Oaks fillies El Patroness, Provocative and stakes-winner Served Cold, who runs in the VRC Oaks on Thursday. He galloped in 11.35 seconds.

Lot 277 from Cheltenham Stables a gelding (second foal) from Tilly Dunnage, a five time winning Mastercraftsman (IRE) grand-daughter of Group I winner Seamist. He galloped in 10.94 seconds.

Lot 342 from Ohukia Lodge the half-brother to stakes-placed Toomuchtobear from three time winning High Chaparral mare Bearish from the family of Group I winner Jennifer Eccles and world champion sprinter Sacred Kingdom. He galloped in 10.94 seconds.
