A busy weekend of Melbourne racing starts with a 10-race card at Flemington on Saturday.

The first weekend of the new racing season also features the Bletchingly Stakes and Grand National Hurdle card at Sandown on Sunday.

Flemington's meeting has been extended to take in a 10th race after the postponement of five races due to high winds at Caulfield last Saturday.

Saturday's program starts at 11:40am (AEDT). The track was rated a good (4) at acceptance time while the rail will be in the six-metre position for the entire circuit.

The Bureau of Meteorology forecast for Melbourne for the rest of the week is:

Wednesday: Cloud clearing. Max 12.
Thursday: A little rain. Max 12.
Friday: Partly cloudy. Max 14.
Saturday: Shower or two. Max 14
