Group Double for Go Bloodstock- Amazonian Lass Wins G2 Wakeful

Tara Madgwick - Saturday November 4

The Go Bloodstock bred and raced Queen of the Ball won the Group III VRC Furphy Sprint early in the day at Flemington and two races later the familiar gold and white silks were back in the frame when Amazonian Lass led all the way to win the Group II VRC Wakeful Stakes (2000m).

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Amazonian Lass was a last start third in the Group II VRC Edward Manifold Stakes, but was able to turn the tables on the winner of that race Zardozi, who started favourite in the Wakeful.

The daughter of More Than Ready (USA) was tenacious for Tim Clark and gave all she had to hold off Zardozi and win by a head.

Amazonian Lass has the overall record of two wins from seven starts with prizemoney of $259,700 and is likely to back up in the Group I VRC Oaks next Thursday.

“We’ve kept the work up to her since her last start and she’s a happy horse,” said Gai Waterhouse, who confirmed the filly was on track for the Oaks

A $325,000 purchase for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott/Kestrel Thoroughbreds from the Segenhoe Stud draft at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Amazonian Lass races for a syndicate that includes her breeder Sir Owen Glenn’s Go Bloodstock.

She is the second winner from as many foals for the Warwick Farm-winning Fastnet Rock mare Dynastic Lady, a full sister to Group I WRC Levin Classic winner Age Of Fire and stakes-placed Sacred Valley. Her grand-dam is by Galileo and the extended European female family is packed with Black Type including Group I winners Fly to the Stars and Fallen for You.

Gollan Racing/John Foote Bloodstock (FBAA)/Blacksoil Bloodstock/ARJB Racing shelled out $750,000 for Dynastic Lady’s Zoustar filly offered by Segenhoe at the Magic Millions in January and she has been named Tszyuya.

Dynastic Lady has a yearling colt by Lonhro and produced a colt by Captivant this spring, but unfortunately passed away in the days after after he was born.

Amazonian Lass is the 223rd stakes-winner for outstanding shuttle sire More Than Ready and is from his final crop of Australian foals.
