Kingman's Regally Bred Daughter Royal Mule Breaks Her Maiden

Mark Smith - Friday November 3

Tiz Invincible has an important engagement at Flemington on Saturday in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, and connections will hope it is an omen that her half-sister Royal Mule broke her maiden over 1462m at Kilmore on Friday.

Ridden by Winona Costin for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, the daughter of Kingman (GB) pressed on to take up the running after being caught three wide early. Under a full-out drive before the home turn, Royal Mule bravely turned back the challenge of the American Pharoah (USA) filly Thunder Hawk by a half-neck with the 4-year-old Pierro mare Rolling Rock a short-neck back in third.

A homebred for Phoenix Thoroughbreds, Royal Mule was sent off a short-priced favourite following her debut second over 1200m at Kilmore.

“She’s tough and has a great constitution. She is incredibly well-bred, not being too far from Anamoe,” stable representative Rebecca Shanks said.

“Hopefully, she improves stepping out in trip, which the Kingman’s should do.

“She has her quirks, but we have found that Melbourne is really her home.”

The 4-year-old daughter of Kingman (GB) was imported in utero and is the first foal of the New Approach (IRE) mare Amuletum (GB) who was consigned by Segenhoe Stud to the 2019 National Broodmare Sale when carrying Royal Mule.

Amuletum (GB) left the ring unsold when bidding halted short of her $480,000 reserve.

Her second foal, Tiz Invincible, has made her $550,000 purchase by Bahen Bloodstock / Ciaron Maher Racing / Eric Lucas / Astute Bloodstock look a bargain as she has banked nearly $700,000 with wins in the Group II ATC Furious Stakes, Group II ATC Tea Rose Stakes, and Listed ATC Rosebud.

When Amuletum (GB) went through the ring, she had a six-month-old half-brother by Street Boss (USA), who was later named Anamoe, a 9-time Group 1 winner.

Bred by Darley, Amuletum (GB), was a 75,000 guineas buy for Paul Makin and Dermot Farrington t the 2017 Tattersalls December Breeding Stock Sale.

She is a daughter of the Group I SAJC Australasian Oaks winner Anamato (Redoute’s Choice).

Justin Fung/Aquis Stallions Pty Ltd shelled out $200,000 for Amuletum’s Pierata colt offered by Segenhoe Thoroughbreds at the 2023 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Amuletum has a yearling brother to Tiz Invincible and a colt foal by Acclaim (IRE).
