Second winner for Sun City - Mishani Eclipse Springs a Shock at Doomben

Mark Smith - Sunday October 29

Telemon Thoroughbreds’ Sun City rocketed to the top of the first season sire standings when the raw-boned grey Mishani Eclipse opened his winning account with a fast-finishing win in the Ladbrokes State Of Rest 2021 Hcp (1110m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Ridden by Robbie Dolan for Les Ross, Mishani Eclipse had a mountain to climb when seventh, some 6-lengths off the leader inside the 200m.

When Dolan found clear air, Mishani Eclipse picked off runner after runner to spring a $51 shock.

The Headwater gelding Head Honcho was a neck back in second, with Under The Louvre gelding Unega Wahy'a in third.

It was the third start for Mishani Eclipse, who was seven lengths astern of stablemate Mishani Suspect at Eagle Farm but had that filly two lengths back in fifth place on Saturday.

Mishani Eclipse pocked the first prize of $72,500 in the $150,000 contest plus a $24,500 QTIS bonus for owner/breeder Mike Crooks.

The gelding’s dam, Mishani Allure, failed to win in nine starts, but she is a half-sister to Listed Tatt's QLD Members' Cup winner Mishani Warrior from the family of top-class filly Princess Talaria, which has been championed by Gooree Stud, who bred Mishani Allure’s granddam Purling, winner of the Group 1 AJC Flight Stakes.

Mishani Eclipse is the second winner from three runners for the Zoustar stallion Sun City, which stands for a fee of $4,400 at Telemon Thoroughbreds this season.
