Trapeze Artist's Sister Gai's Artist Makes Winning Debut

Mark Smith - Wednesday October 25

Six two-year-old fillies made their first outing in Wednesday’s DrinkWise Maiden Plate (1000m) at Randwick-Kensington, but from the time the gates opened to the winning post, this was a battle royale between two fillies.

Trapeze Artist’s sister, Gai’s Artist, went off an odd-on favourite off the back of an impressive trial win at Hawkesbury a fortnight back, and she had her supporters sweating.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Better Than Ready filly Betta Being Single took up the running and led for all but the final stride of the 1000m flutter.

Tyler Schiller had his hands full on the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou-trained Gai’s Artist, who knuckled down to her task in the final 50m.

The

daughter of Snitzel edged Betta Being Single by a short-head with a length and three-quarters back to the Written Tycoon filly Petawawa, who was doing her best work late after being run off her legs.

A homebred for Bert Vierra, Gai’s Artist is a sister to Widden Stud’s 4-time Group 1 winner Trapeze Artist and 2-time winner Master Showman.

When carrying Trapeze Artist, Vierra purchased her dam Treppes off Edinburgh Park for $190,000 at the 2014 National Broodmare Sale.

A daughter of Domesday from a famous Woodlands Stud family, Treppes is a half-sister to Group 1 QTC Stradbroke Handicap winner Crawl and multiple-listed winner Old Man, and to the dam of Group II winner Marching.

Her dam Traipse (Bletchingly) is a half-sister to Group 1 SAJC Goodwood Handicap winner Boardwalk Angel (dam of Group 1 winner Coogee Walk), out of a daughter of Golden Slipper winner Fairy Walk.

Treppes has a yearling brother to Trapeze Artist and Gai’s Artist. She slipped to Snitzel last spring.
