Milestone for Sun City and a Rising Star for Sidestep at Eagle Farm

Mark Smith - Sunday October 15

The timing may have been problematic with signature race days at Caulfield and Randwick. Still, the results were no less noteworthy for Telemon Thoroughbreds, with a milestone first winner for Sun City and a brilliant return to the winner's circle for a daughter of Sidestep at Eagle Farm.

Part of a six-prong attack by the 'Mishani army' on the Kobayashi At Aquis Hcp (1000m) at Eagle Farm, the Les Ross-trained Mishani Suspect honoured Telemon Thoroughbreds talented Zoustar stallion Sun City with his first winner from his second starter.

She did so at the expense of the sponsors, defeating her Kobayashi stablemate Mishani Rock by a neck with a short-neck back to the heavily backed Spirit Of Boom debutant Boomroux in third.

"I thought Muncie (Chris Munce) would get the prize as I was told his horse (Boomroux) was unbeatable," Ross admitted.

"I thought we would settle for second or third, but it was nice to get the win.

"People asked why we have so many in the race, but I have thirty in work, and they are all two-year-olds. Next week, we are hoping to have nine or ten, so I am hoping we can do it again.

"It’s a fillies race next week, so hopefully, they are light on numbers.

“He (Sun City) is a nice horse, and Mike (Crooks) sent a few to him.

“We had one at Toowoomba (Mishani Eclipse 5th in the Pat O’Shea Plate), but the Kobayashi’s were too good.”

Sun City

Mishani Suspect is the second winner from as many foals for the talented Jet Spur mare Maybe Even You, who died in September.

A 4-time winner, Maybe Even You is a half-sister to the 4-time Listed stakes-winner and near $1million earner Steel Zip (Canadian Silver).

In a career restricted by injury to six starts, Sun City won the Group III BRC BJ McLachlan Stakes and was runner-up in the Listed VRC Maribyrnong Trial and Listed BRC Phelan Ready Stakes.

A half-brother to stakes-winner Parlaphone out of the stakes-winning Flying Spur mare Roulettes, Sun City stands at Telemon Thoroughbreds for $4,400.

In the race before Mishani Suspect’s winning debut, the hugely talented Sidestep filly Party For Two made everyone sit up and take notice with a four-and-a-three-quarter length romp over 1000m in a sizzling 56.28 at her first start since May 20.

The O'Dea/Hoysted-trained 3-year-old was one of the state's smartest 2-year-olds, winning races at Doomben and the Sunshine Coast and finishing second to Exploring in the Group II Blue Diamond Prelude when trained by Damien Batters.
