Fire Lane Returns to Form – Half-Brother to Sell at MM 2YOs in Training

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday October 11

Hellbent filly Fire Lane made a winning debut at Newcastle in November last year beating a colt called Cylinder, who will line up in $20million The Everest at Randwick on Saturday.

The Brad Widdup trained Fire Lane was competitive in some of the best juvenile races last season finishing fifth in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and fourth to Cylinder in the Group II ATC Silver Slipper.

Just behind the place-getters in three runs in Black Type races this preparation she appreciated a drop back in grade to a Benchmark 70 event over 1100m at Warwick Farm  and charged to the line for Jett Stanley to score a neck win.

She travelled wide and back in the field before letting down with a powerful finish to claim her third win from 10 starts taking her earnings past $322,000.

“She hasn’t been back in this grade probably ever,” said a delighted Brad Widdup.

“It was a good tough win and great to win for Mr Hunt (BK Racing) and Benny (Vassallo), who are big supporters of mine,” said Brad Widdup.

“It was a great ride from Jett, a very patient ride  from a wide draw. She begun well and he was happy to let her sit wide and just wait and then she dug deep for him.”

Fire Lane was a $330,000 Magic Millions purchase from Yarraman Park.

A $330,000 Magic Millions purchase for BK Racing & Breeding/Brad Widdup Racing from the Yarraman Park Stud draft, Fire Lane is the fourth winner from as many to race from the Charge Forward mare Heritage Lane.

A half-sister to the dam of Group II VRC Edward Manifold Stakes winner El Daana, Heritage Lane was on-sold by Yarraman Park for $70,000 to LJ Ibbotson & PA Ibbotson at last year’s Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale when carrying a full sister to Fire Lane.

The success of Fire Lane brings a good update for her half-brother by Astern that will be offered at Magic Millions 2YO’s in Training Sale by Capewell Breaking and Pre-Training as Lot 39.
