First Winner for Alabama Express

Tara Madgwick - Saturday October 7

The $50,000 Moorundi Classic for juveniles at Murray Bridge on Saturday produced the perfect result for young Yulong sire Alabama Express when his two year-old filly Karavas scored a determined last stride win over the gallant Yes Yes Yes filly Yes Yes Tess.

The 900m scamper attracted five runners with the Richard and Chantelle Jolly trained Karavas sent out favourite. She was strong to the line and only just edged out Yes Yes Tess, who tried hard all the way to the line going down by a head.

Karavas was a $260,000 Inglis Premier purchase for her trainers at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale from the Yulong draft and runs for Neville Morgan. She is the first winner for All of Me, a winning half-sister by Pierro to Group winners Star of Giselle and Solicit from stakes-winner Princesa, a daughter of Group I winner Kapchat.

All of Me has a yearling colt by Tagaloa and is due to foal again to him this spring.

A Group I winning son of Redoute’s Choice, Alabama Express stands at Yulong at a fee of $22,000. After covering 141 mares in his first season, Alabama Express covered just 78 mares last spring.
