Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday October 3

There was a glamour trial to kick proceedings off this morning at Rosehill featuring Everest and King Charles contenders followed later in the program by four heats for juveniles won by the progeny of Zoustar, first season sire Calyx (GB) and I Am Invincible, whose two winners included his cheapest yearling from Inglis Easter.

Vancouver sprinter Overpass had a nice blow out ahead of the Everest with a free wheeling all the way win finishing ahead of Mazu and Golden Slipper winner Shinzo. Fellow Everest contenders In Secret and Buenos Noches in the mix and did we also see the King Charles winner? Fangirl or Think It Over.

The quickest of the four juvenile heats run over 900m was won by the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Zoustar filly Shivermepink, who has having her second trial and was very professional to lead all the way and win in a heat that featured a number of runners by first season sires.

A $520,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Segenhoe draft for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing/Kestrel Thoroughbreds, Shivermepink is the first foal of stakes-winning Sebring mare Pretty in Pink.

A pair of I Am Invincible colts ran the quinella in this heat with the winner Agenda Setter trained by Team Hawkes and ridden by Tommy Berry. He showed brilliant speed from the gates to cross and take the lead and was always held together in front and looked to have a very good experience.

This was the cheapest among 31 yearlings sold at Inglis Easter this year by I Am Invincible when snapped up by Horse Ventures for $250,000 and does appear to have four working legs! Bred and sold by Cressfield, Agenda Setter is the third foal of Group I winning sprinter Secret Agenda, a three-quarter sister to smart three year-old filly Tutta La Vita, who was third in the G1 Flight Stakes last Saturday.

Agenda Setter was a $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase, cheapest yearling by his sire at the sale.

Strawberry Hill Stud might have had a big recent dispersal, but the Singo colours are still out there on the track and were carried by the winner in this heat, an I Am Invincible filly called I Am Sez trained by Bjorn Baker and ridden by Rachel King. She was ridden patiently and let down with a nice turn of foot before being held together to win with ears pricked and looks a lovely filly.

A $575,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Newgate draft for Strawberry Hill Stud/Bjorn Baker Racing/Clarke Bloodstock Pty Ltd (FBAA), I Am Sez is a sibling to a couple of stakes placed horses in Calgary Stampede and Heman and is the fifth named foal from Group III winner Nayeli.

John O’Shea had the winner of this heat with Calyx (GB) colt Getafix doing everything right to lead and win in a heat where Bravehart, the $1.3million I Am Invincible colt from Octavia, was pulled up early and took no part.

A $100,000 Inglis Classic purchase, Getafix is from the first crop of Kingman’s fast Group winning juvenile Calyx (GB), who shuttled to Coolmore for two seasons and has sired 16 first crop winners in Europe this year including a SW Persian Dreamer. He is the second foal of Grisaille, a winning half-sister to Group III winner Seaside from another Group III winner in Living Spirit. It’s a fast precocious female family so everything points to Getafix being up and running early.
