Capitalist Gelding Hedged Explosive at Sandown

Mark Smith - Sunday October 1

Jamie Kah was effusive in her praise for the Capitalist gelding Hedged after putting his opponents to the sword by upwards of four lengths in a 1000m Benchmark 64 at Sandown-Hillside on Sunday.

Carrying the colours of Roll The Dice Racing, the Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained gelding won by a similar margin at Seymour on August 17 before finishing a length and a half from the winner Veight when fourth in the Group III McNeil Stakes (1200m) at his previous start.

Hedged defeated the Shalaa (IRE) filly Catahoula by four and a quarter lengths, with the Snitzel filly Serasana a short-neck back in third.

“He’s my sort of dream horse to ride, he’s push-button and does everything right,” Kah told Racing.com.

“I couldn’t stop him afterwards; he could’ve gone again. Pricey’s got him in perfect condition; he’s ready to really fire in the next few starts.

“I watched him at Seymour, and I texted (Michael Kent) Junior straight away and said, ‘I think that’s my horse, that one’.

“He’s got so much ability. He’s just working it out and still doesn’t know what he’s doing, so there’s a lot of upside.”

Mick Price said he had been fielding offers from Hong Kong for the son of Capitalist.

“Through the McNeil and his form as a lightly raced three-year-old, you get Hong Kong come-a-knocking,” Price said.

“Those bloodstock agents couldn’t make a decision, wouldn’t make a decision, so I got messed around and lost a lot of rhythm with the horse.

“The sale fell through, we’re back on to get a bit of rhythm, and I would say from here you’ve probably got to run him in the Gothic, and then have a look at what you do after that.”

Hedged a $140,000 Magic Millions Yearling

A $140,000 Magic Millions purchase for Mick Price Racing & Breeding Pty Ltd/Roll The Dice Racing/Rogers Bloodstock, he was bred and sold by Yulong and is the first winner for Acing Shamrock, an unraced half-sister by Fastnet Rock to Group II winner Nafaayes from US Group III winner Decelerator (USA).

Vahala Racing bought a Blue Point (IRE) colt from Acing Shamrock for $100,000 from the Yulong consignment at the 2023 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

Acing Shamrock foaled a Tagaloa colt on September 3.
