Maurice Gelding Ganbare Toughs It Out in Dulcify

Mark Smith - Saturday September 30

The Listed Catanach's Jewellers Dulcify Stakes (1600m) at Randwick was run at a solid speed, which suited the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Maurice (JPN) gelding Ganbare just fine.

Coming off a win over 1600m at Hawkesbury on September 7, the  Dodmark Thoroughbreds colour bearer responded to every call from Tim Clark to end the winning run of the Time Test (GB) gelding Pushy.

The Michael Freedman-trained 3-year-old was not about to surrender his unbeaten record without a fight but fell a half-length short, with a further neck back to Godolphin's favoured Harry Angel (IRE) colt  Tom Kitten, who ran his usual honest race.

A $260,000 purchase for Dodmark Thoroughbreds from the Arrowfield Stud draft at the 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Ganbare advances his record to three wins from seven starts with earnings of $238,475.

A brother to the honest Kayobi and Martedi , Ganbare is the third winner from four to race for the talented Redoute's Choice mare Mardi, which was sold by Arrowfield to Global Bloodstock for $60,000 at the 2022 Inglis April (Late) Online Sale.

A daughter of the Group III Newcastle Cup winner and Group 1 The Metropolitan runner-up Bianca (Painted Black), Mardi has a 2-year-old Castelvecchio colt and a yearling colt by Admire Mars (JPN).

Mardi foaled a Rebel Dane filly on September 14.

Ganbare is the 18th stakes-winner for Arrowfield Stud's 6-time Group 1 winning shuttler Maurice (JPN).
