Coolmore Australia Secure World Class Strawberry Hill Stud

Media Release - Tuesday September 26

One of Australia's finest equine properties, Strawberry Hill Stud, is set to continue its role as an industry leader with the famed thoroughbred nursery purchased by Coolmore Australia.

Developed into what many consider the finest boutique breeding operation in the Southern Hemisphere, Strawberry Hill Stud produced many champions for former owner John Singleton.

Strawberry Hill Stud has been purchased by Coolmore Australia.

In a deal brokered by Donovan & Co in partnership with Magic Millions, the property has been secured by Tom Magnier of Coolmore Australia for an undisclosed price.

"It is a testament to John that Strawberry Hill has been bought by Coolmore," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch. "One of the most successful thoroughbred breeding and racing operations globally, Coolmore identified from first inspection this property was world-class and an opportunity not to be missed."

"Magic Millions congratulates both parties on a fantastic outcome," Bowditch added.

Tom Magnier said he was delighted to be able to purchase such a showpiece property.

"When you see the time, effort and passion that John and his family have put into this farm, it's taken decades to develop a farm to this standard and with that it is impossible to replicate," Tom Magnier said.

"No stone was left unturned and the attention to detail is something we noticed the minute we first drove in."

"It is a huge thing for Coolmore to be able to continue the legacy that John has built, it's a historic property that has the famous results on the board. It is truly one of the most iconic properties in Australia."

Magnier said the farm would play an important role in Coolmore's Australian operation.

"The plan is for it to be a world class spelling farm for the best horses," he said. "To give them every opportunity to go back to their trainers in top condition."

"We have had lots of success at Coolmore with breakers including Shinzo, Fangirl, Jacquinot and Home Affairs and we want to complete that circle by having the best place to spell them at Mount White."

"We have searched for a long time to find the right place," Magnier noted. "When we saw what John had created, it was a huge thrill to end up with it and be given this opportunity to continue John’s legacy."

Clint Donovan, Director of Donovan & Co was pleased to know the historic property would continue as a world leader into the future.

"It’s been a pleasure representing John Singleton and the Singleton Group in facilitating this substantial transaction in partnership with Magic Millions," Donovan said.

"Strawberry Hill Stud is the pinnacle of equine farms of its size nationwide - the love, heart and soul poured into the farm by John over a number of years was clearly evident to all that visited this magical property."

"The result of the Coolmore Australia purchase is a fitting next chapter for this incredible piece of the country," Donovan added.

Today's property announcement followed last month's on farm dispersal sale which saw 55 lots sell at a gross of $15.497 million. The top priced seller was Miss Fabulass who was knocked down for $1.85 million.
