Spirit of Boom Sprinter Wins Weetwood

Tara Madgwick - Sunday September 24

The $160,000 Weetwood Handicap (1200m) at Toowoomba on Saturday delivered a new stakes-winner for Spirit of Boom with progressive four year-old gelding All that Pizzazz scoring an emotional win for the Tony Gollan stable.

Second at his first two runs back from a spell, All That Pizzazz soared to new heights when scoring a head win for Ben Thompson over race favourite Yellow Brick.

The victory was sweet for Brisbane's champion trainer who finally won the Weetwood in honour of his late father and legendary Toowoomba trainer Darryl.

"I know how hard this race is to win and I've always desired to win this race," Gollan said.

"It means a lot.

"Benny Thompson rode him an absolute pearler and he duly saluted.

"The race didn't pan out as I expected, but I just knew coming to the corner we had a horse travelling well enough to win.

"This race means the world to me and my family. I have never been able to win this race before and I have tried so often."

All That Pizzazz was a $70,000 Inglis Classic purchase.

A $70,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Glastonbury Farms draft for Gollan Racing / John Foote Bloodstock, All That Pizzazz has the overall record of six wins and three seconds from 12 starts with earnings topping $630,000.

Bred by Stud Consultants and partners, he is the first winner for unraced Encosta de Lago mare Pizzazz, a sibling to stakes-winners Order of the Sun, Beauty and Get to Work as well as the dam of Group I winner Summer Passage.

Pizzazz was purchased by Cambridge Stud at the 2021 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale for $350,000 and they sold her Written Tycoon two year-old filly at Magic Millions this year for $350,000 to Busuttin Racing/Group 1 Bloodstock (FBAA). She produced a filly by Farnan last spring and was then covered by Hello Youmzain (Fr).
