One to Watch – Goulburn

Tara Madgwick - Friday September 22

At this time of year you find well bred three year-olds popping up all over the place as they seek to put a win on the board before progressing to better things and we saw a  $1.1million Snitzel colt trained by Annabel Neasham fit that profile breaking his maiden at Goulburn on Friday.

Fourth on debut in a Newcastle maiden last month, Dead of Night relished a step up to 1500m. A big scopey type, he settled off the pace and when angled into clear running found the line well to win by a neck over his stablemate Wild Calm with another expensive $1.4million Snitzel colt Casablanca in third place.

Purchased from the Segenhoe draft by Annabel Neasham/Brian McGuire/TFI at Magic Millions, Dead of Night runs for a partnership that includes his breeder Go Bloodstock in whose colours he runs.

Dead of Night was a $1.1million Magic Millions purchase.

Dead of Night is bred to get over some ground being a half-brother to Group I placed stakes-winner Frankely Awesome and is the fourth winner from four foals to race from stakes-winning imported Street Cry mare Street Secret (USA), who was bought by Paul Moroney Bloodstock for Go Bloodstock at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale in 2017 for $680,000.

Street Secret hails from one of the greatest female families in the world tracing back to Allegretta, best known as the dam of Arc winning champion mare Urban Sea, the dam of champion racehorses and sires Galileo and Sea the Stars.

She was bought originally by James Bester for US$535,000 at the 2013 Fasig Tipton November Sale and was sent to Frankel the following year before coming out to Cressfield in Australia. The Frankel mating produced the stakes-winner Frankely Awesome for Cressfield and they still have her and she is due to foal to So You Think.

Street Secret has a yearling colt by Russian Revolution, but no foal this spring after missing to Stay Inside.
