One to Watch – Strathalbyn

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday September 20

The full sister to Group I ATC Rosehill Guineas winner D’Argento broke her maiden at Strathalbyn on Wednesday and there are more wins in store for the dashing grey daughter of So You Think.

Trained at Morphettville by Chris Bieg, Diamonds Choice had two unplaced starts last season in stakes races in Adelaide, but was given an easiuer assignment when resuming from a spell in the 1350m maiden.

Sent out a well backed favourite, she looked green to the line, but had too much class for her rivals winning by more than a length.

Chris Bieg believes he has a very nice filly and has hopes she will measure up to Black Type company in the future with the Adelaide carnival next year holding a myriad of options.

“She’s a horse that probably shouldn’t have been running as a two year-old as she’s really bred to be going over a bit further as a three, four and five year-old,” said Bieg.

“She did a good job in those couple of early races, although sustained a few little injuries, but we’ve got the result with her today.”

Diamonds Choice was a $170,000 Magic Millions purchase.

Diamonds Choice was a $170,000 Magic Millions purchase for Brentknoll Bloodstock/Chris Bieg Racing from the Baramul Stud draft and is the eighth winner from eight foals to race from stakes-winning Redoute’s Choice mare Fullazz.

Bieg fell in love with her at Magic Millions and was not leaving the Gold Coast without her.

“You look at the size and scope and the frame of her and she probably wasn’t that commercial type that could be bought and go straight to the races at two, so we got her a little bit cheaper as a result and have just had to be patient,” Bieg said.

“She’s a sister to D’Argento, who is a stallion we really like and we’ve got a few two year-olds by him as well.”

Fullazz produced another filly by So You Think last spring and is due to foal to 2021 European Horse of the Year St Mark’s Basilica (Fr).
