First Foal of Winx to be Offered at 2024 Inglis Easter

Media Release - Sunday September 17

The first foal of Champion racehorse Winx to be offered for public auction – a beautiful filly – will be the star attraction at next year’s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

A daughter of Champion racehorse and leading sire Pierro, the filly will arguably be the most significant individual yearling to ever be offered for sale in the Southern Hemisphere.

She doesn't know it yet, but this girl is going to be a sale ring star in 2024!

Winx is one of the most accomplished racehorses in the history of the thoroughbred – she is the only horse in history to win four G1 Cox Plates, the record-holder internationally for G1 wins (25) and the only horse on the planet in the past 50 years to have won as many races consecutively (33).

Winx defeated 78 individual G1 winners during her career while her peak Timeform rating of 134 was equal to the likes of Japanese Champion Deep Impact and Champion European Enable and better than Makybe Diva, Sunline, Atlantic Jewel, More Joyous, Japanese Champions Almond Eye and Gentildonna and US Champion Zenyatta.

Her yearling filly will be offered on Day 2 of the 2024 Easter Sale, which will be held at Inglis’ Riverside Stables complex in Sydney on April 7 and 8.

The filly will be offered on behalf of Peter & Patty Tighe, Woppitt Bloodstock, Elizabeth Treweeke and Rick Treweeke.

She will be consigned by Coolmore Stud, the farm on which Winx herself was raised.

Winx was a superstar on the track, can she be a super producer?

“Winx has given us all unexplainable joy and it was agreed by the ownership group that by offering this filly for sale, we make available the opportunity for someone else to manage the next racing chapter of what has been a great story,’’ co-breeder Peter Tighe said.

Woppitt Bloodstock’s Debbie Kepitis added: “Winx will forever hold a special place in our hearts and we are very proud of what she achieved as a racehorse and now as a mother.

“It seems fitting that the sale will be run almost five years to the day from her final race start, which resulted in a 25th G1 win in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick.”

Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch was humbled by the ownership group’s decision to choose the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale to offer the filly.

Sebastian Hutch is thrilled to have the opportunity to offer this collector's item at Inglis Easter,

“This is the rarest of opportunities and the greatest of honours to be afforded the chance to showcase this unique filly to a global audience,’’ Hutch said.

“I have been lucky enough to see the filly on a number of occasions and I think the biggest compliment that I can pay her is that independent of her illustrious mother, she is a special filly in her own right.

“The Inglis Easter Yearling Sale has long been known as the Best of the Best, but to have the daughter of Winx, one of the greatest racehorses of all time, as part of the catalogue is a truly special opportunity, not just in the context of the Australian market, but the international bloodstock market as a whole.

“The 2024 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale is going to be a particularly special occasion which will generate unprecedented excitement and anticipation.

“It’s going to create an incredible spectacle in Sydney, with the sale as part of a week-long showcase of Australian racing and breeding along with Days 1 and 2 of The Championships at Royal Randwick.’’
