Coolmore Owned Japanese Bred Colt Wins G1 St Leger

Tara Madgwick - Sunday September 17

The Group I English St Leger (1m6 ½ f) was run at Doncaster overnight with victory going to Japanese bred Coolmore owned colt Continuous, a son of champion Sunday Silence son Heart’s Cry.

Trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Ryan Moore, Continuous was a last start winner of the Group II Voltigeur Stakes at York and progressed again to score a two and three-quarter length win over Frankel colt arrest, who went to the post as favourite.

Aidan O’Brien is contemplating a run in the Arc for Continuous, who has the overall record of four wins and two placigns from seven starts.

“You would say looking at him at York, he was nailed on for this race and he had form on soft ground. Continuous didn't have any problem with the trip. He's got a lot of class, you could see it in his work every day. We're over the moon,” he said.

“The lads will think about the Arc, I'd say, he handles soft ground and gets a mile and a half very well and has class. He has all the things that could work in an Arc. It's just whether the two-week turnback is too tight or not. He has a great constitution as well.”

A homebred for the Coolmore partners, Continuous is closely related to Coolmore’s dual Group I winning and Group I producing sire Saxon Warrior, who is by another Sunday Silsence son in Deep Impact and is from Group I winning Galileo mare Maybe, who is a full sister to Fluff, the dam of Continuous. It’s a top class family that also features Epsom Derby winner Dr Devious and Epsom Oaks winner Dancing Rain.

He is the 12th Group I winner for Heart’s Cry, who has made an impact in Australia with his Japanese trained offspring Admire Rakti and Lys Gracieux winning the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate respectively.

Continuous is also the 52nd Group I winner for Galileo as a broodmare sire.
