Flying Artie's Democracy Manifest Captures the Cameron

Mark Smith - Friday September 15

Democracy Manifest has become such a reliable winner it may be overdue to call time on the overused, succulent Chinese meal, and I see you know your judo well.

The 5yo son of Flying Artie almost arrogantly opened his stakes account in Friday’s $250,000 Group III Australian Bloodstock Cameron Hcp (1500m) at Newcastle.

Given a ground-saving ride by Tyler Schiller, Democracy Manifest honoured Chris Waller with his first win in the race when defeating Palmetto (Ghibellines) by a widening two and and-a-half lengths with Spangler (Starspangledbanner) a half-neck back in third.

With his track record triumph, Democracy Manifest advances his record to eight wins, four seconds, and two thirds from 20 starts with earnings of $581,475.

Bred by Tony Bott and Newgate Stallions, Democracy Manifest had been passed in short of his $25,000 reserve at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale before Allam Racing / Andrew Williams Bloodstock had the final say at $70,000 when Network Bloodstock consigned the son of Flying Artie to the Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale.

He is the best of three winners from four to race for the Melbourne-winning Benicio mare Slippery Satin, a half-sister to Group 1 WATC Railway Stakes winner Great Shot (Magnus) and multiple Listed winner Gawne (Flying Spur).

Purchased by Botty's Bloodstock for a mere $11,000 at the 2015 National Broodmare Sale, Slippery Satin has a 2yo filly by Magna Grecia (IRE) named Slippery Miss who is in the Bryce Hayes stable.

Slippery Satin was covered by Zousain last spring.

Democracy Manifest is the eighth stakes-winner for Blue Gum Farm’s Flying Artie. The Group 1 VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes hero stands at $16,500 in 2023.
