G1 Goal for Latest Wootton Bassett Stakes-Winner

Tara Madgwick - Friday September 8

A homebred for the Aga Khan, two year-old Wootton Bassett (GB) colt Zabiari scored a powerful win in the Group III Prix des Chenes (1600m) at Longchamp overnight beating another Group winning son of the Coolmore shuttler in Grey Man.

Trained by Jean-Claude Rouget, Zabiari knuckled down to his task well at the finish surging late to overhaul Grey Man to win by a length and a quarter taking his overall record to two wins and two seconds from four starts.

A progressive colt improving with racing, Zabiari holds an entry for the Group I Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (1400m) in October.

Zabiari is the best of three winners from stakes-placed Duke of Marmalade mare Zaridiya, whose Group III winning grand-dam Zarkiya is a half-sister to the dam of Arc winning 2008 European Horse of the Year Zarkava, the dam of Group I winning sire Zarak.

Zabiari is the 37th stakes-winner for Wootton Bassett and is his fifth two year-old stakes-winner among 11 juvenile winners in the Northern Hemisphere this year.
