Which red-hot trainer jockey combo may not be seen as much in future?

The punters' pal combination of jockey Jeff Lloyd and trainer Toby Edmonds may not be seen quite as much in the future.

Together, the Queensland duo were one of the most lethal racing partnerships during the country during the 2016-17 season.

Of Lloyd's 189 winners for the season, 66 of them were for Edmonds at a fabulous strike rate of 30 percent.

Their biggest win was when former South African Lloyd partnered star filly Houtzen to win the rich Magic Millions 2YO Classic in January.

There has been no fallout between the pair – and Lloyd will continue to ride for Edmonds.

Gold Coast-based Edmonds explained the situation.

"Jeff told me recently that he doesn't want to be tied to riding whatever I have in a race," Edmonds said.

"For instance if I have a couple of 10-1 things in a race and he wants to ride the favourite, he will ride the favourite.

"It is what it is. I don't have any issues with Jeff and he will still ride a lot of my horses going forward."

Gold Coast-based Edmonds indicated he was keen to use the services of former NSW jockey Darryl "Digger" McLellan, who has recently regained his riding licence.

McLellan has not ridden since a fall at Newcastle in 2011.

He is a dual Group 1-winning jockey and has ridden over 1000 winners in a career which has spanned three decades.

"He has been doing some work for me and he would of course start riding on the Gold Coast for me, with a view to progressing to riding at metropolitan meetings," Edmonds said.

Houtzen has returned to Edmonds' stables and everything is now geared towards her main mission of the $10 million The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 14.

Edmonds has yet to pick out the lead-up races for Houtzen, who will race for Aquis Farm in The Everest.

A rider has not been confirmed for Houtzen's mission to climb racing's Everest.
