Hellbent Mare Wins G3 Cockram

Tara Madgwick - Saturday September 2

Brilliant Hellbent mare Benedetta has been looking for a stakes win for some time and got the job done in style when resuming from a spell to win the Group III MRC Cockram Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

Trained by Jason Warren, Benedetta has a sensational winning record and made it six wins from eight starts when she powered clear for Daniel Stackhouse to score a half length win over last start stakes-winner Parisal.

Jason Warren was thrilled to tick the box of a Black Type win for Benedetta who has won over $850,000 in prizemoney.

"It's very important for her as a mare going forward for her breeding career but let's hope that that's well off," Warren said.

"She's got better races in store and hopefully on to something a little bit better.

"I know (owner) Laurence Eales likes money, so we'll probably go towards Sydney and get a hold of some prizemoney up there.

"I think she's earnt a place in a better race, and I'd say Sydney is probably where we end up.

"There's a Group 2 race there in a few weeks' that'll probably suit her, but just one step at a time as we have her whole career.

"But it's just nice to get the job done today."

Benedetta was a $75,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Mill Park draft.

Benedetta runs in the famous colours of Laurence Eales that were carried by Melbourne Cup winner Shocking and was a $75,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Eales Racing Syndications from the Mill Park draft.

A half-sister to Group II placed Whatfox, she was bred by Brenton and Liz Parker and is the  second winner from Group II placed Domesday mare Whatalovelyday, who comes from the family of Group I winners Leica Guv, Light Fantastic and Pharoah.

Benedetta is the third stakes-winner for Hellbent, who is fully booked at a fee of $38,500 at Yarraman Park this spring.
