More Than Ready's Mirra View Claims the Mona Lisa

Mark Smith - Friday September 1

Under an inspired ride by Chad Schofield, the five-year-old More Than Ready (USA) mare Mirra View made a successful stakes debut in Friday's Listed Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m) at Wyong.

With Short Shorts setting a furious pace,  Mirra View and the Tavistock mare Sanstoc singled out in a no-hold-barred finish, which was decided in the steward's room.

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Mirra View kept the race by a long-head with three-quarters of a length back to the winner's better-fancied stablemate Wollombi (Extreme Choice), a fast-finishing third.

"She has been the victim of too good a barrier a couple of times, but she got out in plenty of time today, and it was good to see her cross the line first," Peter Snowden said.

"She is very determined and always gives 100 per cent. She loves the sting out of the ground, so she had a few things in her favour today.

"I'm thrilled for Peter and Catherine (Campbell), who are great supporters of the stable, and the black type means so much to them as breeders."

A homebred for Bennelong Bloodstock, Mirra View advances her record to five wins, three seconds, and three thirds from 18 starts with earnings of $346,390.

A half-sister to Group III  ATC Angst Quality Handicap winner and twice Group 1 runner-up Mirra Vision (Lonhro), Mirra View is one of six winners from seven to race for the royally-related Redoute's Choice mare Mirrasalo.

More Than Ready (USA)

The winner of the Group III Tatt's QLD Tattersall's Cup, Mirrasalo is a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Castelvecchio and Group1 ATC Spring Champion Stakes heroine Maid Of Heaven.

Mirrasalo's son Mirra Impact (Lonhro) won on his debut at Newcastle in July at his only start.

Mirrasalohas has not had a foal since Mirra Impact.

Mirra View is the 221st black-type winner for Vinery Stud's much-loved More Than Ready (USA), who died at 25 at WinStar Farm in 2022.
