Talented mare Flying Mascot (Tavistock) is set for a date with Champion sire Snitzel after topping today’s Inglis Digital August (Late) Sale.
Offered by Cameron Bennett’s Flying Start Syndications, Flying Mascot sold to Arrowfield Stud for $600,000.
“I’m really happy, it’s a great result, all the owners are over the moon,’’ a delighted Bennett said.
“[Inglis Senior Bloodstock Consultant] Brett [Gilding] was looking after me, he was fantastic to deal with, kept me up to date all the way along which was really helpful in the lead-up and then today as well.
“The mare was marketed really well by Inglis, the photos and video etc that were sent to all the big buyers out there who might be in the market for a mare such as her which led to lots of enquiries and the end result, to get her away for $600,000, is really awesome.
“At the end of the day we paid $25,000 for her, she won $565,000 in prizemoney and today sells for $600,000 – it’s been an amazing journey with her.’’
Arrowfield’s Jon Freyer described Flying Mascot as “a really attractive breeding prospect for us’’.
“She’s well bred and could go to almost any of our stallions on the farm at Arrowfield but unless people change their minds, she’ll be visiting Snitzel in the very near future,’’ Freyer said.
“We’ll bring her home and breed her this season because we think she’ll make a beautiful broodmare.
“The price was basically where we thought we would have to go to secure her, I mean she ran against and defeated some really high class fillies, she was just beaten by Probabeel, she beat Mariamia, the form around her was indicative of a filly on the cusp of Group 1 ability and those sorts of fillies don’t come cheaply.’’
The second-top lot of today’s sale was the talented race mare Gin Martini (Rip Van Winkle), which sold to Lime Country Thoroughbreds (as agent) for $220,000.
Gin Martini was offered by Tricolours Racing and Syndications’ James Moss, who has enjoyed significant success through Inglis Digital over the years, headed by quality sprinter Fasika (So You Think) which realised $920,000 in 2021.
“We’ve had plenty of success with Inglis Digital, it’s a great platform to trade horses on,’’ Moss said.
“It’s a very wide-reaching platform now, everyone in the industry is scanning the catalogues twice a month, every month, it markets itself to an extent so it’s a great place to buy and sell and it’s so transparent.
“At the end of the day we’re delighted with the final price.’’
Lime Country’s Jo Griffin added: “We’re thrilled to have secured her, especially given her strong black type record as a two-year-old and the fact she then trained on to be a dual Stakes winner and G1 placed.
“There’s no mating plan yet but she’ll definitely go straight to stud this year. The client is aiming to breed a very sharp 1600m horse and we think Gin Martini is the ideal candidate for that.’’
Other strong results in the August (Late) Sale included the Hesket Thoroughbreds-offered Syncretism – which sold to Walnut Farm for $210,000 – and Sur La Mer, which realised $150,000 to John Hutchinson’s Scone Bloodstock.
Sur La Mer was one of three horses offered by Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds, joining Arranmore ($70,000) and Septaria ($35,000).
“Wasn’t it wonderful! The three sold for in excess of a quarter of a million dollars, which exceeded our expectations considerably,’’ Martin said.
“We were really thrilled with the overall results, especially Sur La Mer selling for $150,000. Thanks so much to Inglis for all the work they do and good luck to the new owners.’’
In total, the August (Late) auction grossed $4,281,550.
Entries for the September (Early) Sale are now open and will remain so until midnight on Wednesday September 6.
