The second day of the August Yearling Sale, that took place in alphabetical order with a smaller amount of lots catalogued than the previous session, produced very good results. As on the first day of the sale, demand was strong at all levels. Of the 82 colts and fillies offered, over 85% changed hands for an average price of €239,914. €2,4 million for a half-sister to BUCANERO FUERTE and WOODED

Dubawi filly from Frida la Blonde

The sales auditorium was packed when it came to the turn of a half-sister by Dubawi (lot 214) to last weekend's Gr.1 Phoenix Stakes winner BUCANERO FUERTE and Gr.1 Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp winner WOODED to go under the hammer. Consigned by Haras d’Etreham, it was the agent Oliver St Lawrence, acting on behalf of Bahraini interests, that had the final say at €2.4 million for the filly from the talented family of FIRM FRIEND, FRED LALLOUPET and MAGIC RING.

“She’s a lovely filly,” said Oliver St. Lawrence. “I’ve bought her for a Bahraini owner. Her dam has already produced two fantastic performers that have won Group 1s and we hope she will be just as good on the racetrack. She’ll come back to England and we’ll decide later on where she’ll going into training. We’re very happy.”

€660,000 for a half-brother to THE JULIET ROSE

Night of Thunder colt from Dubai Rose.

A little earlier in the evening, Richard Brown (Blandford Bloodstock) went to €660,000 to secure a half-brother by Night Of Thunder to triple Group scorer THE JULIET ROSE and Listed winner EVEREST ROSE (lot 196). Consigned by Écurie des Monceaux, the son of DUBAI ROSE is from the family of the excellent SEA LA ROSA, a multiple winner at Group level including the Prix de Royallieu (Gr.1).
“For me, he was the standout colt of the day,” said Richard Brown. “His dam has already produced some good horses and he comes from a great stud. We’re delighted.”

€600,000 Son of Ghaiyyath for Godolphin

Already the buyer of the top price on the first day, a son of Dubawi for €1,25 million, Anthony Stroud struck once again on behalf of Godolphin during the second session, this time for a son of the young Darley sire Ghaiyyath, (lot 195) for €600,000. Consigned by Haras des Capucines, the colt is out of a sister to Group winner LOCKWOOD from the family of the talented EARNSHAW, ZAFADOLA, PEARL GREY and ARTISTIC RIFLES etc.

“He’s a lovely colt that we like a lot,” said Anthony Stroud. “He’s by Ghaiyyath, a sire that we have high hopes for. We’re very happy.” A little earlier, he had also signed the docket at €425,000 for another daughter of Ghaiyyath (lot 176). Offered from La Motteraye Consignment, the filly is a daughter of Listed winner and Group placed CHILDA, that has already produced Group winner CHILEAN.
