€1,25 million Dubawi Colt Tops Arqana Deauville Yearlings Day 1

An unmissable event on the European yearling sales calendar, ARQANA’s August Yearling Sale began on Friday afternoon. With significant international demand, the first day of the August Sale registered excellent results. Nearly 86% of the 118 lots that went under the hammer changed hands for an average of €230,842, an increase of nearly 30% in comparison to the 2022 edition. The turnover for the day reached €23,315,000, up 20% on previous year.

Son of Dubawi makes €1,25 million

Bidding on behalf of Godolphin, Anthony Stroud signed for the top price of the session, a son of Dubawi (lot 21), for €1,25 million. Consigned by Écurie des Monceaux, the colt is out of a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner and young sire PERSIAN KING and hails from the family of Group 1 scorers PLANTEUR, PEINTURE CELEBRE as well as the very talented POLICY MAKER, PUSHKIN, PLACE ROUGE and PEINTURE BLEUE.

Five yearlings for Al Shaqab Racing - Siyouni Colt the Star

After signing for 10 yearlings for a total of €3,03 million, Nicolas de Watrigant (Mandore International Agency) ended the day as leading buyer. Standing in company with Benoit Jeffroy, he notably bought five lots on behalf of Al Shaqab Racing, led by a son of Siyouni (lot 80) for which he went to €500,000 to secure. Consigned by Écurie des Monceaux, the colt is from the close family of Group 1 winner MOHAATHER and multiple Group scorer PRIZE EXHIBIT

€950,000 for a son of Frankel

Subject to a lot of interest beforehand, a son of Frankel out of Listed winner and Group 1 placed VIA PISA (lot 111) was eagerly awaited in the ring. Following a protracted bidding war, Richard Brown (Blandford Bloodstock) had the final say at €950,000 for the grandson of VIA MEDICI, from the close family of the excellent ADMIRE MARS consigned by Haras de Saint Pair.

“Her dam has already produced a very good racehorse by Frankel,” said Richard Brown. “There was a lot of interest in the colt, so we are very happy to have got him. He’ll go to England and then we’ll decide on his future in due course.”

Son of Wootton Bassett makes €720,000

Among the exceptional lots consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux during the session was a son of Wootton Bassett (lot 118) that made €720,000. It was M.V. Magnier that signed the docket for the colt from the close family of the talented performers WILD SIDE, WILD COCO, WAGNIS, WIN FOR US and WHITE ROSE. He said, “He’s a lovely colt by Wootton Bassett, that is a very successful stallion. The colt was perfectly prepared by Ecurie des Monceaux, who do an excellent job.”

With 17 colts and fillies sold for a total of €7,33 million, Ecurie des Monceaux ended the session as leading consignors on Day One of the sale.

Wootton Bassett also had the highest priced filly of the session.

Consigned by Haras d’Etreham, a daughter of Wootton Bassett out of dual Group scorer QUIET OASIS (lot 33) was knocked down for €550,000 in favour of bloodstock agent Mike Akers on behalf of Alex Bregman (The Bregman Family Racing). The well-bred filly is a half-sister to dual Group winner LANCASTER HOUSE and hails from the family of Group 1 scorers PARK EXPRESS, NEW APPROACH and WAS.
