Cressfield Investment Paying Off

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday August 9

There were a lot of super expensive mares sold at this year’s Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale, but one that looked well bought at the time was the half-sister to five time Group I winner Imperatriz that was snapped up by boutique Hunter Valley nursery Cressfield for $460,000.

A daughter of champion sire Fastnet Rock, Cabaca had won just one of 11 starts when sent to the sale at the Gold Coast, but since changing ownership and being returned to trainer Chris Waller for another preparation she has found a new lease on life.

Cabaca scored at her first run back at Doomben last month and then powered home from last for Kerrin McEvoy to win the Benchmark 64 event over 1600m at Warwick Farm on Wednesday, so is two for two in the Cressfield colours.

“She’s come back well. I thought Kerrin was niggling at her a little bit, but once he got her out and balanced she let down really well,” said Chris Waller.

“She’s been purchased by Cressfield and I think it’s their first horse with me so it’s good to have them in the stable and it’s good they opted to bring her back into work as she’s in for a good prep.”

Cabaca looks to have been well bought for $460,000, star broodmare of the future for Cressfield!

Cabaca was originally a $300,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Bhima Thoroughbreds draft with the emergence of Imperatriz as a superstar in New Zealand obviously adding huge value to her worth.

Cabaca and Imperatriz are the only winners to date from Shamardal (USA) mare Berimbau, who has a yearling colt by Capitalist and is back in foal to I Am Invincible, the sire of Imperatriz.
