Starspangledbanner Mare Goes Back to Back at Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Saturday August 5

Progressive Starspangledbanner mare Petulant has hit a real purple patch of form in recent weeks backing up from a tough win at Rosehill two weeks ago to produce a similar effort at the same venue on Saturday.

Ridden by Tyler Schiller, the Team Hawkes trained mare was tenacious to the line in the Benchmark 78 event over 1200m beating Waverider Buoy, who chased her home last time by a short neck.

With three wins from her past four starts, five year-old Petulant has never raced better!

“I’ve got to give Tyler credit, it was a carbon copy ride to last time,” said Wayne Hawkes.

“The part I loved the best was that he waited to get her balanced and when he popped her out about the 300m she really kicked and found the line.

“Grant Briscoe and his team have been very patient owners and let us do what we needed to and it’s very rewarding to get a mare like this.”

A homebred for owner breeder Grant Briscoe of Kirks Bridge Farm, Petulant has done a terrific job winning five races and placing five times from 17 starts with prizemoney topping $310,000.

Petulant is a half-sister to stakes-winner Casino Seventeen from Denman mare Tikal, who raced just once and is a daughter of stakes-placed Lanquin.
