One To Watch – Wyong

Mark Smith - Thursday August 3

The three-year-old Exosphere filly Zarrose gave away age and experience to most of the field in Thursday’s Ladies Day Sunday August 27, Maiden Hcp (1350m) at Wyong, which she overcame it in the style of a filly with better days ahead.

Sent off a short-priced favourite on the back of a career debut second to the promising Howgoodareyou (So You Think) at Hawkesbury on July 9, Zarrose looked anything but the winner when Andrew Adkins was scrubbing her ears off as she seemingly lost interest before the home turn.

Taking the shortcut along the fence, the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained filly picked up the bit in the final 100 metres to power home over the top of the Pariah gelding Sense Of Humour for an unlikely long-neck victory. It was a long head back to the Inference mare Decisive Lass who followed Zarrose through and never went around a horse.

An $80,000 pinhook for Willow Vale from the Shadwell Stud Dispersal at the 2021 National Weanling Sale, Zarrose made $280,000 to the bid of Suman Hedge Bloodstock from the Sledmere Stud draft at the 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Suman Hedge races the filly in association with long-time friend Sheriff Iskander.

The daughter of Exosphere is the sixth winner from seven to race for the crack mare Rewaaya (Singspiel), the Group 1MRC Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes winner, and placed in a further four Group 1s.

From the renowned Easy Date family, Zarrose is the final foal of Rewaaya, who died in March 2022.

Group 1 Golden Rose hero Exosphere (Lonhro) stands for $6,600 at Oaklands Stud in 2023.
