Test Your Mare With Ellsberg

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday August 2

With mating options for this spring becoming increasingly limited as popular stallions fill their books, the late announcement of a new top class Group I winning sire prospect is always going to bring something fresh to the mix and Murrulla Stud’s Ellsberg is a Premium stallion on Breednet, so is available for Hypothetical Matings.

A Group I winner of $3.3million , Ellsberg was tough and talented with nine wins from 1200 to 1800m and 10 placings from 24 starts, so he was fast, consistent and very effective up to a mile.

Ellsberg is a grand-son of champion sire Snitzel being the best horse sired by his slick sprinting son Spill the Beans, who died after just four seasons at stud.

The female family of Ellsberg goes a long way to explaining his success as a tough and versatile competitor as his dam Liberty of Love, a winning General Nediym mare, is a full sister to seven time winning Group III winner Electric General with the family also featuring multiple stakes-winning sprinters Dorf Command and Swift Gun, plus a two time Group I winning stayer in Coco Cobanna.

This is a tough running female family with a good mix of diverse speed lines that includes iconic sires Biscay, Snippets and Without Fear (FR), so Ellsberg has many positives for the broodmare owner and he should prove a good match for many of the bloodlines that have enjoyed success with Snitzel.
