One to Watch – Warrnambool

Tara Madgwick - Monday July 31

A brilliant four and a half length debut winner at Warrnambool on Monday, this three year-old filly is the last of 186 winners this season for Widden Stud’s champion sire Zoustar and she might also be his cheapest.

Trained by Lindsey Smith, Light of Rose had no barrier trial form to indicate her potential, but was sent out an odds on favoruite for the 1200m maiden so must have been showing something in the unofficial jumpouts.

She gave Beau Mertens an easy steer, coasting home in the heavy ground to win in a breeze.

Lindsey Smith was well pleased with the win and believes there will be metro racing in the future for Light of Rose.

“Once she has another run, she can go out and feel the spring on her back and she’ll come back Christmas time and might measure up to a Wednesday mares race,” said Smith.

“She looked comfortable in the going and it was a very promising start to her career.”

Light of Rose runs for Mount Gambier based owner Bernard Bauchier, who purchased her for just $8,500 from the 2021 Inglis Digital June (early) Sale, which would make Light of Rose one of the cheapest yearlings by champion sire Zoustar sold in that year.

Bred at Yarraman Park, Light of Rose was a backward type that need time, which her new owners have given her and you can see her Inglis Digital Sale page here.

Light of Rose is the second winner from stakes-placed More Than Ready (USA) mare Dysfunction, a daughter of stakes-winner Vignor. She was on-sold by Yarraman Park in 2021 for $28,000 at the Inglis Broodmare Sale for Hirsch Racing and is in foal to Yes Yes Yes.

Light of Rose is the final winner of the season for Zoustar, who has sired 186 winners of $16.3million to be second to only I Am Invincible on the score of winners.
