Pedigree Watch - Euro Juvenile - 1.5Million Frankel

Tara Madgwick - Friday July 28

Three stakes races for two year-olds were run overnight in Ireland the UK and they all produced new stakes-winners for their sires including Frankel, whose talented daughter Ylang Ylang was bought for 1.5million guineas at Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1.

Trained by Aidan O’Brien for the Coolmore partners, Ylang Ylang was a short priced favourite for the Group III Silver Flash Stakes (7f) at Leopardstown after winning her debut at the Curragh last month.

She made it two from two when scoring a smooth length and a half victory for Ryan Moore.

“Ylang Ylang is a very genuine filly and like most Frankels she wears her heart on her sleeve. We probably would have preferred to get a lead tonight and teach her a bit more, but if nothing is going to go on, you have to do the right thing. We will make sure that there's a bit more pace next day,” said Aidan O'Brien.

Ylang Ylang was the most expensive filly by Frankel sold at Tattersalls October Book 1 in 2022.

Ylang Ylang was purchased by MV Magnier and White Birch Farm from the Newsells Park draft and was the highest priced filly by Frankel sold at Tattersalls October Book 1. She is the first foal of stakes-placed Shamardal mare Shambolic, a half-sister to Group I winners Viva Pataca and Laughing and her fourth dam is Circus Ring, whose descendants have enjoyed notable success in Australia and include Group I winners Serenade Rose and Trekking.

Ylang Ylang is the 125th stakes-winner for Frankel and is his third from a daughter of Shamardal with the best of those being Australian dual Group I winner Converge.

The Group III Tyros Stakes (7f) at Leopardstown was also won by Aidan O’Brien, Ryan Moore and the Coolmore partners with victory going to another short priced favourite in No Nay Never colt Henry Adams.

He also made it two wins from as many starts, but was made to work for it by Starspangledbanner colt Devious, who challenged hard at the finish to go down by a neck with seven lengths back to the third horse.

Henry Adams is the first winner for unplaced Galileo mare Jigsaw, a full sister to Group II winner Mohawk from Irish bred Group III winning Encosta de Lago mare Empowering.

He is the 54th stakes-winner for No Nay Never and is his fourth from a daughter of Galileo, so again highlights the growing success of the nick between Scat Daddy and Galileo, which is something on the rise.

The Listed Star Stakes (7f) at Sandown was won by the Ollie Sangster trained New Bay filly Shuwari, who was another juvenile to keep her unbeaten record intact when making it two from two.

Shuwari was strong to the line for Oisin Murphy scoring a half length win over Too Darn Jot filly Fallen Angel.

Bought for 80,000 guineas by her trainer at the Tattersalls October Book 2 Yearling Sale from the Ballylinch Stud draft, Shuwari is the best of three winners from Group III winning Sir Percy mare Lady Pimpernel, who traces back to influential blue hen Anna Paola, the Champion German 3YO Filly, whose descendants include Australian Group I winners Helmet, Epaulette and Tuvalu.

Shuwari was purchased for 80,000 guineas from Tattersalls October Book 2.

Shuwari is the tenth stakes-winner for Dubawi stallion New Bay, who stands at Ballylinch Stud at a fee of  €75,000.
