First Stakes-Winner for Stratosphere

Tara Madgwick - Monday July 24

Grenville Stud’s young Snitzel stallion Stratosphere posted his first stakes-winner when Greatham Boy took out the $1100,000 Golden Horseshoe Sng G3 (1200m) at Kranji on Sunday by a length.

The Michael Clements trained gelding led home an Aussie bred trifecta defeating Silo (National Defense (GB) and Artillery (Smart Missile) and has now won two from two.

Greatham Boy is a half-brother to Celavi, the Champion Singapore Polytrack Horse in 2021.

“He (Greatham Boy) did great first-up on the Polytrack. Celavi raced a lot on the Polytrack too but he’s (Greatham Boy) showed that he’s got it on the turf,” said Michael Clements.

“He showed us a lot of quality from the beginning and also in his trials in Australia and here.

“He’s a horse that’s very focused right from the beginning. He’s smart.

“Daniel (Moore) did all the work and trialled on him initially. He would have ridden him first-p but he (Greatham Boy) only carried 50 kilos then, but he’s been set to ride the horse from the start.”

Greatham Boy was an expensive yearling and now a stakes-winner!

The highest priced yearling for his sire Stratosphere, Greatham Boy was a $125,000 Magic Millions Tasmania purchase from the Grenville Stud draft for Bevan Smith Bloodstock and is a half-brother to not only stakes-winner Celavi, but also stakes-placed Entrapped being the sixth winner from good producer In Harmony.

A three-quarter sister by Exceed and Excel to Group III winner King of Danes, In Harmony had a yearling colt by Stratosphere sell at MM Tasmania again this year for $100,000 to John Foote Bloodstock and she was covered by Capitalist last spring.

Greatham Boy is the first stakes-winner among seven winners by Stratosphere, who also has two more stakes performers in Cairns Encounter and Sphere.

Stratosphere

He stands at Grenville Stud at a fee of $7,700.
