A Reward for Harry Angel's Ouroboros

Mark Smith - Saturday July 22

Ouroboros put the stamp on an excellent debut season for Harry Angel (IRE) when rewarded for his consistency with a fighting win in Saturday's Quayclean Hcp (1200m) at Caulfield.

One of three runners in the race for Mick Price and Michael Kent (Jnr), Ouroboros was given a positive ride by Craig Newitt, hitting the line strongly to defeat the impressive Tivaci debutant Wolfy by a length with the Deep Field colt Orion The Hunter a short-neck back in third.

Following a second and two thirds from his first three starts, Ouroboros may have earned a reprieve from gelding.

"He had a number of starts without being able to win and tell us he is a good colt," Price revealed.

"He did a good job then because he was exposed the whole way. He did it early, the sectionals were fast, and he did it late. It was a strong display over 1200m.

t;I'll speak to (Trilogy's) Jason Stenning and Sean (Dingwall) and see what they want to do.

"He is a problem-free colt, and I gave him a little dash up yesterday. I had a look at his blood picture and thought that it was a very relaxed blood picture.

Ouroboros a $200,000 Inglis Classic yearling

"I will speak to the owners and Rob Ferguson to see what they want to do now."

Trilogy Racing / CB Bloodstock / MG Price Breeding and Racing combined to purchase the son of Harry Angel for $200,000 from the Glen Gallic Stud draft at the 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

He is the second winner from as many to race for the Choisir mare Quaff, a half-sister to Listed winner Wine Bush (High Chaparral) and multiple Group III-placed Wine Tales (Tale Of The Cat).

Purchased by Glen Gallic Stud for $23,000 from the Coolmore Stud draft at the 2020 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale, Quaff has a weanling colt by Zousain and was covered by Dundeel last spring.

Ouroboros is the ninth 2yo winner of the season for Harry Angel (IRE), joining Trapeze Artist on that mark with only Brave Smash (JPN) ahead.

Harry Angel (IRE) is also in a neck-and-neck battle with Encryption for second spot behind champion first-season sire elect Justify (USA).

The dual Group 1 winning son of Dark Angel has his fee doubled to $33,000 at Darley Stud in 2023.
