Best On Breeding

Mark Smith - Friday July 21

Following an excellent debut when fifth behind Barber in the Group III Blue Diamond Prelude at Sandown-Hillside in February, the Peter Moody-trained Amigo created a good deal of interest when he reappeared over 1000m at Caulfield on June 24, and he was just plain awful.

Scrubbed along to keep interested in the early stages, Amigo came widest to mount a challenge. He was knocked sideways halfway down the straight and beat just two home, finishing six lengths behind the winner Outback Miss.

Amigo had a run-in with the stewards before he raced., earning their ire when fractious in the barriers in one of the five jumpouts before his debut.

The son of Snitzel will be out for redemption in Saturday's Quayclean Hcp (1200m), where Amigo's stablemate Sensical has been installed as a lukewarm favourite over the Tivaci debutant Wolfy.

Amigo is a stunning individual befitting the horse that cost Tasman Bloodstock/TFI $975,000 when consigned by Arrowfield Stud to the 20022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Amigo a troubled fifth on debut in the Blue Diamond Prelude

He is the third living foal of the top-class Savabeel mare You're So Good, whose broodmare career began in the worst possible way when she missed to Redoute's Choice, and then her Deep Impact (JPN) filly died.

You're So Good remained faithful to Snitzel for the next five seasons.

The first through the ring was the filly Waafiya who was a $570,000 but for Emirates Park / Bryan Carlson at the 2019 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Waafiya won a Scone maiden in four starts for Peter and Paul Snowden. Put in foal to Wooton Bassett (GB), Emirates recovered $420,000 when Ciaron Maher Bloodstock had the final say at the 2022 Gold Coast National Broodmare Sale.

Next came the Snitzel filly With Zeal, who did not see a sales ring or racetrack and visited Acclaim (IRE) last spring.

Amigo was the third of the Snitzel x You're So Good tribe and he was followed by a that failed to make his $300,000 reserve at the 2023 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

You're So Good had a switch-up when covered by The Autumn Sun in 2021. She foaled a colt last spring before being covered by Palace Pier (GB).

You're So Good was a talented race filly with a pedigree to back it up.

The daughter of Savabeel was an inspired $80,000 purchase for Spicer Thoroughbreds and Sheamus Mills Bloodstock from the Waikato Stud draft at the 2011 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale at Karaka.

Sent to Nigel Blackiston, You're So Good won at Moonee Valley on debut in December of her 3yo year.

She was runner-up at her next three starts, including the Group III Vanity Stakes and Group 1 Australian Guineas, beaten a half-length by Ferlax.

After winning the Listed Alexandria Stakes, You're So Good completed her first preparation when midfield in the Group 1 ATC Vinery Stud Stakes won by Norzita.

Despite starting a further seventeen times, You're So Good was destined never to win again, although she did place an additional four times in stakes races.

You're So Good is a sister to stakes-placed Indrabeel, the dam of this season's Listed ATC Lonhro Plate winner Madeira Sunrise (I Am Invincible).

Her dam Lightning Spur (Flying Spur) is a half-sister to Group 1 AJC TJ Smith Stakes and Group 1 Qld Tatt's RC Winter Stakes winner Melito (Redoute's Choice) and the stakes-placegetters Across the Moon (Stratum) and Sister Declan (Quest for Fame) and to the dam of dual Group III winner and Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes second Pariah (Redoute's Choice).

Lightning Spur's stakes-winning dam Cloister is a granddaughter of the remarkable Summoned, one of the rare broodmares to leave five stakes-winners highlighted by the 5-time Group 1 winning champion Zeditave.
