Omilana Makes it 16 for Capitalist

Mark Smith - Sunday July 16

Darby Racing has a likely type in the Capitalist filly Omilana who shed her maiden tag over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

Ridden by Angela Jones for Tony Gollan, Omilana scythed between runners inside the 100m to defeat the Spill The Beans filly Miley's Memory by three-quarters of a length with the Sidestep filly Switch And Slide a half-neck back in third.

It was the second start for Omilana, who went off favourite following a troubled fourth on debut at Eagle Farm in December.

Darby Racing shelled out $200,000 for the daughter of Capitalist, who KBL Thoroughbreds consigned to the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Omilana a $200,000 Magic Millions yearling

She is the first foal of the stakes-placed I Am Invincible mare Uratta Belle, who came from the first crop of the champion sire and was a $10,000 purchase at the 2013 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale. How times have changed!

Uratta Belle’s Pierata filly failed to make her $80,000 reserve at the  2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Uratta Belle died in May, and her final foal is a weanling filly by The Autumn Sun.

Omilana is the 16th 2yo winner of the season for Newgate Farm’s Capitalist.
