Movader Deserved That One

Mark Smith - Wednesday July 5

There are few more honest 3yo fillies than Movader who broke through for a richly deserved success in Wednesday’s Ladbrokes Racing Club (Bm64) over 1400m at Sandown-Lakeside.

Ridden by Wiremu Pinn for Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Movader spent the first half of the race three and four wide before sliding up alongside the leader, Better Link.

Hitting the front 250m out, the daughter of Invader was strong to the line in defeating the Impending filly Albanian I Am by a long-neck with Highland Reel (IRE) gelding Slane a further one and a quarter length back in third.

Since breaking her maiden at Casterton in November, Movader has placed in five consecutive starts, with her overall record advancing to two wins, five seconds and two thirds from nine starts with earnings of $98,065.

Wiremu Pinn said the intention was to lead, but there was more speed than planned, and he was hung out on a limb.

“I followed Ben’s horse (Better Link) across, and she went through her gears smoothly and was too good for them,” Pinn said.

“She’s small but has a very big heart and ries hard.

“She is a big striding filly for a small horse.

“It’s a positive sign for the future, and I think she will get a mile.”

Ciaron Maher Bloodstock shelled out $190,000 for the daughter of Invader, who Newhaven Pasrk Stud consigned to the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Movader a $190,000 Magic Millions yearling

She is the first foal of the Listed ATC Dulcify Hcp winner Moqueen who was a $750,000 purchase for Kia Ora Stud from the Newhaven draft at the 2021 National Broodmare Sale.

From Albert O’Cass’ stakes-laden family descending from Gainesville (CAN), Moqqueen has a 2yo colt by Fastnet Rock, which was a $350,000 Easter purchase for Busuttin Racing / All Winners, and a yearling filly by Exceed And Excel, which failed to make his $300,000 at the Gold Coast in January.

After foaling a Farnan colt last spring, Moqueen revisited Exceed And Excel.

With his oldest crop three-year-olds, Aquis Farm’s Invader scaled the heights this season when Sunshine In Paris won the Group 1 Surround Stakes.

The striking son of Snitzel stands at Aquis in 2023 for a fee of $11,000.
